Don’t Beat Yourself Up
Finding a job can prove to be one of the more difficult tasks you’ll encounter as you begin to make the jump from higher education to that of the “real world”. Take comfort in the fact nobody really knows exactly what they’re doing (even well into their career for some individuals!) and you’ll surely find the right job when it comes along. In the grand scheme of life, your very first job out of college, while exciting, will most likely be a distant memory once you’ve built up some decent experience and have a new understanding of the working world and what it takes to succeed. In this post we’ll be discussing some ways to combat the depressing nature of searching for a job and why you should have a thorough review and rewrite of your resume if you’re discovering it’s not attracting as many responses as you would’ve hoped for. Enjoy!
Finding a Job Can Be Tough…
This is a fact for many individuals who are on the hunt for a job where they not only earn a decent amount, but also where the job itself is stimulating, rewarding, and fulfilling. Finding the “perfect job” is unlikely, even well into your career. This may be disheartening to hear, yet if you’re always hoping for the next best thing and not settling for a job which is 80-90% perfect, you run the risk of passing up some amazing opportunities. Always set your sights as high as possible, yet don’t pass up a great learning experience which is situated right in front of you. Yes, finding a job can be tough, but don’t let anyone discourage you from the process. If you’re extended an offer to a job which may seem lackluster in its qualities, take it and roll with the punches. You may find yourself surprised at how much it may teach you about what you really want to do with your life. This lesson alone is priceless.
You’re a Brilliant, Talented Individual
Everyone is truly talented at something. It can be a random social skill, physical prowess, extreme problem-solving abilities, etc… Whichever unique and excellent quality you possess, flourish in it! Embrace your amazing skills no matter how mundane they may seem to you. “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure” rings so true in this scenario. Don’t underestimate just how valuable and useful some of your skills may be! Market yourself appropriately within your resume and list your accomplishments. Those in charge of hiring enjoy seeing confidence and excellence in the form of goal completion, persistence, and a budding expertise only YOU possess.
YOU Have Control of Your Future
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! You’re in charge. Not the hiring manager, not the interviewer, not the recruiter who sends you random jobs for a train conductor position every Friday; it’s you! The first step towards success is understanding you’re able to be whatever you want to be and there’s really nothing which can stop you from achieving goals if you apply yourself appropriately. Be the best version of yourself as much as possible and you’ll see fantastic results in all facets of your life.
Find Clarity & Peace Through Life’s Joys
If you’re a healthy individual, you already have one of the best luxuries one can ask for: your health. Just because you don’t quite have your dream job yet isn’t a reason to become discouraged. There are so many beautiful aspects of life we often overlook. Go outside, enjoy nature, hang out with friends and loved ones, call up a former colleague to see how they’re doing. You never know where this natural initiative may lead to. The old college roommate whom you haven’t spoken to in a year may know of a great opportunity within the startup they’re currently working for. It’s best to put yourself out there as much as possible; not only for your mental health, but for your goal of finding a job.
Don’t Give Up
Try, try, and try again. Whatever is meant to be is meant to be. If an interview didn’t work out, don’t stress about it. Move on to the next one as soon as possible and keep chugging along. When the stars align, you’ll find what you need and an awesome company will find exactly who they’re searching for in the form of your skills, abilities, and qualities. Giving up doesn’t solve anything. Being proactive instead of reactive always wins out.
